It’s a miracle we know anyone
In a discussion about population growth over at Reddit, I came across this site that uses pixels to visually represent the size of the Earth’s human population. One pixel in the top-left corner is you, and the rest is… everyone else on earth. Scrolling to the right gets tiresome well before you reach the first billion.
It makes me realize how insignificant my life is, which in a way is comforting.
It also makes me realize how rare my connection is with everyone I’ve ever known. I get to meet a tiny percentage of those six-and-a-half-billion people. That makes every person I know, even my boring co-workers, special. It makes me want to cultivate a deeper connection with everyone I’ve ever met.
